This page describes how the RingOwl Shopify app (“the App”) accesses, uses, stores, and deletes data from Shopify stores that install it. It supplements our general Privacy Policy, which applies to the RingOwl service as a whole, including call data handled by your AI receptionist.
1. What the App does
RingOwl gives your store an AI receptionist that answers phone calls, responds to customer questions about your products, shipping, and hours, takes messages, and captures leads. To answer accurately, the App reads catalog information from your Shopify store.
2. Shopify data we access
The App requests only two read-only Shopify scopes, and nothing more:
- read_products— your product catalog (titles, descriptions, prices, availability), used to build the AI receptionist’s knowledge base.
- read_content — your Online Store pages (for example FAQ, About, and Shipping pages), used for the same purpose.
We also receive basic shop details when you install: store name, store domain, store owner name and email, country, and timezone. These are used to create your RingOwl account and configure your AI receptionist.
We deliberately do notrequest access to your orders, your customers’ records, checkout, or any other Shopify data. The App never sees your customers’ Shopify accounts, addresses, or payment information.
3. How we use and store this data
- Product and page content is stored as your AI receptionist’s knowledge base so it can answer caller questions about your store.
- Shop details are stored as your RingOwl business profile and used to greet callers with your store name.
- Your Shopify access token is stored encrypted and used only to read the data described above and keep it in sync.
- We do not sell this data, share it with advertisers, or use it to train third-party AI models.
4. Call data
When callers speak with your AI receptionist, RingOwl processes the caller’s phone number, call recordings, transcripts, and AI-generated summaries on your behalf, as described in our Privacy Policy and Data Processing Addendum. This data comes from your phone line, not from Shopify.
5. Data deletion
- On uninstall: when you uninstall the App, we delete your RingOwl account created by the install — including the imported product and page content, your shop details, your access token, and your call history. If the account existed solely for the Shopify install, the associated team and user records are deleted as well.
- GDPR webhooks:the App subscribes to Shopify’s mandatory compliance webhooks.
customers/data_requestandcustomers/redactare acknowledged — the App does not collect Shopify customer records, so there is typically nothing to return or erase.shop/redacttriggers the same full deletion as uninstall, as a backstop. - You can also request deletion at any time by emailing hello@ringowl.ai.
6. Subprocessors
RingOwl uses a small number of infrastructure providers to operate the service — voice AI and telephony, cloud hosting, and file storage. They process data only on our instructions. The current list is available on request and in our DPA.
