How to cancel call forwarding
One short code or one toggle. Pick your carrier below and you're back to normal in under a minute.
Cancel codes by carrier
| Carrier | Cancel code |
|---|---|
| Verizon (landline, Fios, wireless) | *73 |
| AT&T wireless | ##21# (unconditional) / ##61# (conditional) |
| AT&T landline | *73 |
| T-Mobile | ##21# / ##61# |
| Cricket (AT&T MVNO) | ##21# / ##61# |
| Mint Mobile (T-Mobile MVNO) | ##21# / ##61# |
| Boost Mobile | *73 (CDMA) or ##21# (GSM) — try *73 first |
| Spectrum / cable VoIP | *73 |
| Comcast / Xfinity Voice | *73 |
| Cox / Frontier / CenturyLink | *73 |
| Bell, Telus (CA) | *73 |
| Rogers, Freedom Mobile (CA) | ##21# / ##61# |
| Google Voice | voice.google.com → Settings → Calls → toggle Call forwarding off |
Pattern: copper / cable lines and CDMA wireless use *73. GSM wireless uses ##21# and ##61#. Dial from the line that has forwarding active — codes only affect the line they're dialed from.
How to turn off call forwarding on iPhone
There are two ways to turn off call forwarding on an iPhone, and which one you need depends on your carrier.
Option 1 — the Settings toggle (Verizon and most CDMA carriers): 1. Open Settings → Phone → Call Forwarding. 2. Toggle Call Forwarding off.
The phone-with-arrow icon disappears from the status bar once it's off.
Option 2 — a dial code (AT&T, T-Mobile, and other GSM carriers): if Call Forwarding isn't listed under Settings → Phone, your carrier never exposed the toggle. Open the Phone app dialer and dial your carrier's cancel code instead — ##21# for AT&T / T-Mobile / GSM carriers, or *73 for Verizon if you set it by code. Press the green call button; GSM carriers reply with a confirmation text.
Either way, test it by calling your iPhone from another phone to confirm it now rings through.
Cancel from Android Settings
On most Android phones (Samsung, Pixel, OnePlus, Motorola, others):
- Open the Phone app.
- Tap the three-dot menu → Settings → Calls → Call forwarding.
- Tap each forwarding type (Always, When busy, When unanswered, When unreachable) → Turn off.
If the Call forwarding menu is greyed out or missing, your carrier requires the dial-code approach instead. Open the dialer and use the USSD code from the table above.
Cancel one type vs cancel all
On GSM carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile, Rogers), forwarding is split into four conditions: always (21), when busy (67), when unanswered (61), when unreachable (62). You can cancel just one with ##67#, ##61#, ##62# — or all at once with ##002#.
On CDMA / landline carriers (Verizon, Spectrum, Bell), *73 cancels whichever rule is active. If both *71 and *72 were ever set, run *73 twice in separate sessions to be sure neither still routes.
When the cancel doesn't take
Test by calling the forwarded line from a different phone. If it still routes to the old destination, three likely causes:
- Wrong line. Star and USSD codes only affect the line they're dialed from. If you're trying to cancel forwarding on a different number, dial the cancel from that number's phone.
- Portal override. Some VoIP plans (Fios, RingCentral, some business VoIP) pin forwarding from the web portal and ignore dial-code cancels. Log in and disable from there.
- GSM carrier on a CDMA cancel (or vice versa). Re-check your carrier — *73 on AT&T wireless will dial a phone number;
##21#on Verizon wireless will do nothing.

FAQ
- How do I cancel call forwarding on my iPhone?
- Two options. (1) Settings → Phone → Call Forwarding → toggle off (works on Verizon and some CDMA carriers). (2) Open the Phone app dialer and dial your carrier's cancel code:
*73for Verizon / landlines / cable VoIP,##21#for AT&T / T-Mobile / GSM carriers. - What's the cancel code for AT&T call forwarding?
- AT&T wireless uses
##21#to cancel unconditional forwarding and##61#to cancel conditional. Dial from the Phone app and press the call/send button. AT&T sends a text confirmation within a minute. AT&T landlines use*73instead. - Does *73 work on my cell phone?
- On Verizon Wireless, yes. On AT&T Wireless, T-Mobile, Cricket, Mint, Boost (GSM), and most other GSM carriers, no — use
##21#or##61#instead. If*73doesn't take on your wireless phone, you're on a GSM carrier. - I cancelled but calls still forward — why?
- Usually because the forwarding rule was set from your carrier's web portal, not via star code, and the portal overrides dial-code cancels. Log in to your carrier account, open Calling Features → Call Forwarding, and disable from there.
- Will cancelling call forwarding cost anything?
- No. Cancel codes (
*73,##21#,##61#,##002#) are free on every major North-American carrier. Forwarded calls themselves may have been billed while forwarding was active, but the cancel dial itself doesn't cost anything.
