Gratitude list examples

Real lists are specific and a little messy. Here are two to show what that looks like.

An ordinary Tuesday

  1. The first sip of coffee before anyone else was up
  2. My coworker covering the call I was dreading
  3. Leftover soup that tasted even better today
  4. A text from my brother out of nowhere
  5. Getting into bed with clean sheets

After a hard week

  1. I got through the week, even the Wednesday
  2. My friend who listened without trying to fix it
  3. A walk that cleared my head
  4. Knowing next week starts fresh
  5. Sleeping in on Saturday

Gratitude list ideas

Go through these categories and pick one thing from each: a person, a small moment, something your body did, your home, your work, a place outside, something hard you got through, and a simple pleasure. That’s eight lines already. For more, see our list of things to be grateful for.

Questions, answered

  • What is a gratitude list?+

A short list of things you're thankful for, written down on purpose. It can be three items or thirty. The point isn't the length, it's noticing the good things that would otherwise slip by.

  • What should I put on my gratitude list?+

Specific things from your actual life: people, small moments, things your body did, places, even hard things that taught you something. The placeholders in each line are ideas if you get stuck.

  • How long should a gratitude list be?+

Three to ten items is plenty for a daily list. A longer list, like 30 or 50 items, can be a nice one-off exercise around Thanksgiving or a birthday.

  • Is my list saved anywhere?+

No. Everything happens in your browser, and nothing you type is uploaded. Save it as an image or print it if you want to keep it.

  • How do I keep a gratitude list going every day?+

Make it part of something you already do, like getting into bed. Or let it come to you: RingOwl Check-in calls you once a day, asks about the good parts of your day, and emails you the list after the call.
