How to forward calls on Comcast Xfinity Voice

Comcast Xfinity Voice uses the classic North-American star codes: *72 / *71 / *73 — same pattern as Verizon landlines.

Comcast Xfinity Voice (also branded as Xfinity X1 Voice, Xfinity Home Phone, or just Xfinity Voice) uses the standard North-American star codes for call forwarding: *72 to forward every call, *71 for conditional, *73 to cancel. Codes work from any handset connected to your Xfinity Voice line. There's also a web portal at xfinity.com if you'd rather toggle from a browser.

Comcast Xfinity Voice — codes you need

  • *72YOUR-NUMBER

    Forward every call

Sends every incoming call to the destination number immediately.

  • *71YOUR-NUMBER

Forward only when busy or unanswered

You still answer when free; the destination catches the rest.

  • *73

    Cancel forwarding

Dial from the same Xfinity Voice line.

Method 1 — Star codes from your Xfinity handset

  1. Pick up any handset connected to your Xfinity Voice line.
  2. Dial the star code followed by the destination number, no spaces or dashes. Example: *7218005551234 forwards every call to 1 (800) 555-1234.
  3. Press send/talk.
  4. Wait for the confirmation tone (a short stutter dial tone or three beeps).
  5. Hang up.

Forwarding is now active. Test by calling the line from a different phone — it should route to the destination.

Method 2 — Xfinity Voice web portal

If you'd rather configure from a browser:

  1. Sign in at xfinity.com with your Comcast credentials.
  2. Open the menu → My AccountServicesVoice.
  3. Find Call Forwarding in the calling features list and click Settings.
  4. Pick a forwarding type — Always, When busy, When no answer — and enter the destination number.
  5. Save.

The portal also lets you set selective forwarding (forward only specific incoming numbers) and time-of-day forwarding, which star codes can't do.

Method 3 — Xfinity Connect / Voice Center app

The Xfinity Connect app (older) and Xfinity Voice Center (current) both expose call forwarding under Settings → Call Forwarding. Same toggles as the web portal, on mobile.

If the in-app toggle is greyed out, your specific Voice plan may have forwarding disabled at the account level — call Comcast support and reference your plan's calling features.

Conditional vs unconditional — pick one

Unconditional (*72) forwards every call away — your Xfinity Voice handsets don't ring at all.

Conditional (*71) only forwards when your line is busy or doesn't answer in about four rings. Your handsets ring normally; only the missed calls roll over.

For most small businesses or home offices, conditional is the right pick — pair it with an answering service or AI receptionist and you keep customer-direct contact for calls you can take.

Cancelling Xfinity forwarding

Dial ***73** from any handset on your Xfinity Voice line. Same confirmation tone, then forwarding stops.

If forwarding was set from the web portal or the Voice Center app, the portal-set rule may override *73. In that case, log into xfinity.com and disable from the Call Forwarding settings page.

FAQ

What's the Xfinity call forwarding code?
Xfinity Voice uses the standard North-American star codes: *72<destination-number> to forward every call, *71<destination-number> for conditional (busy/no answer), and *73 to cancel. Dial from any handset on your Xfinity Voice line.
Why isn't *72 working on my Xfinity Voice line?
Three usual suspects: (1) star codes are disabled on your specific Xfinity Voice plan — toggle forwarding from the web portal instead; (2) the destination includes spaces or dashes — strip everything to a plain 10-digit US number; (3) the line you're forwarding is on Xfinity Mobile (wireless), not Xfinity Voice (home phone) — Xfinity Mobile uses GSM **21* codes since it runs on Verizon's network.
Can I forward Xfinity calls only outside business hours?
Star codes don't support time-of-day rules — but the Xfinity web portal does. Go to xfinity.com → Services → Voice → Call Forwarding → Settings → Selective Call Forwarding, and add a schedule.
Does Xfinity charge for forwarded calls?
Most Xfinity Voice plans include unlimited domestic calling, so forwarded calls don't add to your bill. International or premium-rate destinations may incur per-minute charges — check your specific plan.
