How to forward calls on Android

Two paths on every Android: the in-app Call forwarding menu (when your carrier exposes it) or a one-line carrier code.

Android call forwarding lives in the Phone app on most devices — Samsung, Pixel, OnePlus, Motorola, Sony, and others share the same pattern. The in-app menu only appears if your carrier supports it; AT&T and T-Mobile usually require a dial code instead. Either way, the same code works on every Android model — there's nothing model-specific.

Option 1 — Phone app → Call forwarding menu

  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu (top-right on Samsung and Pixel) → SettingsCallsCall forwarding.
  3. Pick a forwarding type: Always forward, When busy, When unanswered, or When unreachable.
  4. Tap Enable and enter the destination number.

The call-forwarding-active icon (small phone with arrow) appears in your status bar. On Samsung phones the menu may be under Phone → ⋮ → Settings → Supplementary services → Call forwarding instead.

If the Call forwarding menu is greyed out or missing entirely, your carrier doesn't expose it — use Option 2.

Option 2 — Dial your carrier's code

Open the Phone app dialer and dial the right code:

CarrierForward every callForward when busy / no answerCancel
Verizon*72<number>*71<number>*73
AT&T wireless**21*<number>#**61*<number>###21#
T-Mobile**21*<number>#**61*<number>###21#
Cricket**21*<number>#**61*<number>###21#
Mint Mobile**21*<number>#**61*<number>###21#
Visible (Verizon MVNO)*72<number>*71<number>*73
Boost Mobile*72<number> (CDMA) or **21*<number># (GSM)*71<number> / **61*<number>#*73 / ##21#
US Cellular*72<number>*71<number>*73
Google Fivoice.google.com → Settings → Callstoggle off

After dialing, press the green call button. Star codes (*72, *71) give a confirmation tone; USSD codes (**21*, ##21#) give a text confirmation within a minute. If your phone tries to *call* a weird-looking number instead, you're missing the trailing #.

Conditional vs unconditional

Unconditional (*72 / **21*) — every incoming call routes to the destination immediately. Your Android never rings.

Conditional (*71 / **61*) — only calls you don't pick up (busy, no answer in ~25 seconds, unreachable) get forwarded. Your Android rings normally; you keep the option of answering.

For most small businesses, conditional is the right pick — you answer what you can, the destination (answering service, AI receptionist, personal cell) catches the rest.

Cancelling forwarding on Android

From the Call forwarding menu (Option 1 path): open the same menu and tap Turn off on each forwarding type.

From the dialer (Option 2 path): - Verizon / Visible / cable VoIP: *73. - AT&T / T-Mobile / Cricket / Mint / GSM: ##21# (cancel unconditional) or ##61# (cancel conditional). ##002# cancels everything.

The status-bar forwarding icon disappears when it's off.

FAQ

Where is Call forwarding on Samsung Galaxy?
Open the Phone app → tap the three-dot menu → Settings → Supplementary services → Call forwarding. On some Samsung models it's under Settings → Calling accounts → SIM → Call forwarding. If the menu is greyed out, your carrier doesn't expose it — dial the carrier USSD code instead.
Where is Call forwarding on Google Pixel?
Open the Phone app → tap the three-dot menu → Settings → Calls → Call forwarding. Pixels on most carriers expose this; Pixels on Google Fi route everything through the Google Fi app or voice.google.com instead.
Why doesn't the dial code work on my Android?
Three usual suspects: (1) you're missing the trailing # — without it, the phone treats the code as a regular call; (2) you pressed enter instead of the green call button; (3) you're on a CDMA carrier (like Verizon) dialing a GSM code (**21*) — or vice versa. Match the code to the carrier table above.
Will the call-forwarding icon stay in my status bar?
Yes — as long as forwarding is active, most Android phones show a small phone-with-arrow icon in the status bar. It disappears when you cancel forwarding.
Does call forwarding work over Wi-Fi calling on Android?
Yes. Forwarding is a carrier feature — it works whether your call comes in over cellular or Wi-Fi calling. The destination is reached the same way either way.
